The Albanians will now get the benefit of high speed internet on their mobile phones with the help of Vodafone Albania as Vodafone launches its new 3G service in Albania starting with the capital city Tirana and the suburbs of Tirana. Vodafone has been able to provide the service after winning the license by keeping a bid of US $43.79 million which is more than double of the competitors bid AKEP. AKEP placed a bid of US $16.52 million to get the licence. The others in line were the Eagle Mobile who placed a bid of $16.65 million for the licence. Along with Tirana Vodafone will soon spread the benefit of this service to other cities of Albania. The other cities which Vodafone plans to cover will be Fieri, Vlora, Shkodra and Durresi.
The new network will be set up with the help of the Nokia Siemens Networks which will also handle civil work supports, training and maintenance of the network and will also help in network planning and optimization. Vodafone has opted for a four year deal with Nokia Siemens Network for the same. Vodafone’s CEO, Mr. Haris Broumidis says that Vodafone decided to chose Nokia Siemens as they possess high technical expertise which best suits the needs of Vodafone. This deal will help Vodafone provide a speed of up to 14.4Mbps.
Mr, Broumidis also added that the launch of their new service will be a revolution in the way Albanian families communicate and will help Albanian families and business to access to mobile internet more easily with the most advantageous tariff plans Vodafone provides. He also promised that the service which is just available to the capital city will soon be extended to the entire country within a span of 18months.
